Mora and the Mountain Goats

Watercolor Illustrations for an Unpublished Picture Book

This series of illustrations was created to visualize the world, characters, and story of an in-progress picture book called “Mora and the Mountain Goats” which I am working to write and illustrate, and hopefully find a publishing home for one day.

In the story, a young girl named Mora embarks on a wondrous adventure in search of the legendary Mountain Goats. Along with her new wolf companion, Mora ventures through forests, rivers, treetops, and mountain passes encountering the magical and surreal and developing her own curiosity and courage along the way.

The visual world is heavily inspired by my time in New Mexico, and its forests, rivers, mountains, and deserts. It also incorporates my love for surrealism, magic, herbalism, wolves, wildness, journeys, alpine environments, wildflowers, owls, and folktales.
