Sketchbook
Welcome to my sketchbook!
Here, you can glimpse into my world of sketches, drafts, ideas, and visual experiments.
The sketchbook space is for me, where so many of my ideas begin and illustrations and projects start to take shape. Sometimes, I’ll find a new character peeking out of a corner or a scribble, and then sometimes, a whole new visual world.
I love sketching a multitude of things like sea creatures, animals, plants and natural environments, historical fashion and interiors and objects, folktales and folkloric elements, design and patterns, and unusual compositions and small details from daily life.
I go in and out of different sketchbooks and enjoy using various papers like toned tan, grid paper, square shaped sketchbooks, ones with handmade paper, and very often, lots and lots of blank printer paper.
I usually sketch with colored pencils. I started doing so when I was much younger in school, and an art teacher had gifted me a set so I could keep drawing in the summer. I love the vibrant color, weight, and feel of colored pencils so I’ve continued to use them in my work. I also love how they capture expressive movement, whimsical marks, and can render both fine detail and beautiful and irreplaceable texture. Here and there, I like to sketch with pens or even just watercolors and my paintbrushes.
I update this page regularly, so check back often and have fun exploring. :)
